Ride the lift to the top floor of the Neukölln Arcaden shopping centre, walk up the last ramp of the car park, and you arrive at one of Berlin's best-loved rooftop bars — a ramshackle garden of planters, deckchairs and fairy lights looking west across the rooftops. The sunsets are the main event, and on clear evenings the place fills well before the sky turns.
There is a small stage for concerts and DJ sets, cheap drinks, and food from changing kitchens. It is gloriously unglamorous — concrete underfoot, the city's TV tower in the distance — and all the better for it. A small entry fee applies in the evenings; go early to beat the queue.
