Berlin's oldest beer garden, the Prater has been serving cold beer and simple food on Kastanienallee since 1852. The sprawling chestnut-shaded garden seats hundreds and has a relaxed, neighbourhood feel — none of the tourist-trap atmosphere you get closer to the centre.
The attached theatre hosts concerts and events, so check the programme before you go. On warm evenings the beer garden fills up fast; arrive early or settle in for the long haul. Cash preferred at the bar.
