Church of the Redeemer

The Church of the Redeemer (Erlöserkirche) in the Bornstedt district north of Sanssouci is an Italian Romanesque church from 1893, set in a park adjacent to the historic Bornstedt Royal Domain estate. The church's campanile and round apse rise above the surrounding trees with a distinctly Lombard character, and the churchyard is planted with mature trees that give it a sheltered, melancholic atmosphere.

The church is part of the Bornstedt Crown Domain — a historic estate whose buildings have been converted into craft workshops, a brewpub, and small shops. The domain is popular with locals for Sunday walks combining a visit to the church, a drink at the brewpub, and the short walk to Sanssouci Park's northern entrance. It makes a quieter alternative approach to the park, arriving from the north rather than through the main gate at the Brandenburg Gate.
