Adolf Wagner

Adolf Wagner has stood on Schweizer Strasse since 1931 and is the apple wine tavern with the strongest claim to authenticity — the apples are pressed in-house in the back yard, the cider matures in oak barrels in the cellar, and the long communal tables in the front room are typically half-full of regulars by 6pm. The menu is short and unwavering: Frankfurter Würstchen, Handkäs, Schnitzel mit Grüne Sosse, Schweinebraten, all generously portioned and reasonably priced.

The summer Biergarten at the back is one of the largest in Sachsenhausen and a popular spot before and after football matches at the nearby Deutsche Bank Park. Open daily from 11am; no reservations on the ground floor — first come, first served, which means a wait on Friday and Saturday evenings. Schweizer Strasse 71.
