Atschel

Atschel is one of the older and quieter Sachsenhausen apple wine houses — less touristy than Dauth-Schneider, with a more strictly Frankfurter clientele and a cooking standard a notch above the average. The kitchen takes the local classics seriously: the Grüne Sosse comes with its seven herbs identifiable on the plate, the Handkäs mit Musik is properly mature, and the Rippchen (cured pork chops) are served on real sauerkraut with mustard. Booking is recommended on weekends.

The L-shaped dining room is wood-panelled, the courtyard garden is small but well-shaded, and the wine list — short, regional, well-chosen — is a reminder that Frankfurt is closer to the Rheingau than most beer-focused German cities care to admit. Wallstrasse 7.
