Dauth-Schneider

Dauth-Schneider is the canonical old Sachsenhausen apple wine tavern, on Neuer Wall at the heart of the Alt-Sachsenhausen apple wine quarter. Founded in 1849 and run by the same family for six generations, it serves the full local menu — Frankfurter Würstchen, Handkäs mit Musik, Rippchen mit Kraut, Tafelspitz, and the famous Grüne Sosse (a cold sauce of seven herbs over boiled potatoes and eggs) — all to be eaten while drinking Ebbelwoi from the grey-and-blue Bembel jug.

The interior — wood panels, long shared tables, photographs of the family across the generations — is the genuine article, and the courtyard garden is one of the most pleasant places to sit on a summer evening in Frankfurt. Prices are reasonable for the quality and atmosphere; expect long waits without a reservation on Friday and Saturday evenings. Klappergasse 39.
