Sachsenhausen, on the south bank of the Main, is Frankfurt's most enjoyable neighbourhood. The riverside half — Alt-Sachsenhausen — is the apple wine quarter, a cobbled grid of streets dating from before the war whose taverns serve Ebbelwoi (apple cider) from grey-and-blue stoneware bembel jugs. The cluster of bars around Klappergasse and Wallstrasse is the loudest at weekends; quieter streets like Paradiesgasse have older, more atmospheric apple wine houses where regulars play cards by the door.
The northern edge of Sachsenhausen, along Schaumainkai, is the Museumsufer — twelve museums in a row, including the Städel, the Liebieghaus, the Deutsches Filmmuseum, and the Museum Angewandte Kunst. The riverside path itself, lined with plane trees, is a Sunday-walk classic and home to a flea market every other Saturday. Tag eating-out and drinking POIs in Sachsenhausen with the slug sachsenhausen to make them appear here.
