Giessen is well-connected by rail. Direct trains run to Frankfurt (around 45 minutes on an IC/ICE service, longer on regional trains), making Frankfurt Airport the most practical air gateway. From the airport, take the S-Bahn to Frankfurt main station and then a train north to Giessen — the total journey is around 90 minutes.
Marburg is 30 minutes to the north by regional train, and Wetzlar is about 20 minutes to the west. The main Giessen station (Bahnhof Gießen) sits on the edge of the city centre and is an easy 10-minute walk to most attractions. Several long-distance bus services also stop in Giessen, offering a cheaper alternative to the train from Frankfurt and other German cities.
By car, Giessen sits at the junction of the A5 and A45 motorways, making it easy to reach from Frankfurt (about 60 km south) or from the Ruhr valley to the north-west. Parking in the city centre is metered; there are multi-storey car parks near the Seltersweg shopping street.
