Werner-Senger-Haus

The Werner-Senger-Haus on Rütsche, just below the cathedral, is another of the contenders for "oldest half-timbered house in Germany," with dendrochronology pointing to around 1296. It's named after the prosperous patrician family that lived here in the late Middle Ages.

The building today houses a restaurant on the ground floor, which means you can step inside and see the heavy oak posts and beams that have held the structure up for more than seven centuries. The façade has been carefully restored, with the upper floors jettied out and a small arched window line that's characteristic of the earliest Limburg houses.
