Gildehauser Ostmühle

A restored Gildehaus windmill that anchors the village landscape near Bad Bentheim.

Gildehauser Ostmühle is a traditional windmill on the edge of Gildehaus, the sandstone village just west of Bad Bentheim. Its white sails and brick base make it one of the clearest landmarks in the area, and it fits naturally with a visit that already includes Bentheim Castle and the older lanes of Gildehaus.

The appeal is simple rather than spectacular: a piece of rural Lower Saxon heritage preserved in its original landscape. It is worth seeking out if you are walking or cycling around Bad Bentheim, especially because the mill sits close to other Gildehaus sights and gives the village a more complete historical shape.
