Cycling the Island

Bicycles are the default transport on Norderney, and cycling the length of the island is one of the essential things to do. The main cycle path runs east from town all the way to the Weisse Düne and the nature reserve at the eastern end — about 8 kilometres each way, flat the entire distance. Side paths cut through the dune landscape toward both the north beach and the southern mudflats.

Bike rental is available everywhere in town, from simple three-speeds to electric bikes for those who want an easier ride. Cars are restricted to the town area, so the dune paths are quiet and peaceful. Combining cycling with a mudflat walk or a swim at the eastern beach makes for a good full day.
