Norderney Lighthouse rises from the middle of the island, a red-brick landmark built in the 19th century to guide shipping along the East Frisian coast. Its position away from the town makes it a useful goal for a cycle ride or a long walk through dunes and open island country.
When the tower is open, the climb gives one of the best views on Norderney: beaches, salt air, low roofs, and the flat North Sea horizon. Even from outside, it is a strong visual anchor in a landscape that otherwise spreads out in subtle lines.
