Island Cycling

Cycling is one of the principal ways to explore Wangerooge — the island is flat, car-free, and has a network of paved paths running the length and width of the island, from the village to the beach in the north and the Wadden Sea mudflats in the south. The full circuit of the island's accessible paths takes about two hours at a comfortable pace, passing through dune landscape, salt marsh, and the village centre.

Bikes are available to rent in the village, and most summer visitors bring their own on the ferry (bicycle transport is booked in advance as freight). The cycling paths are well maintained and shared with pedestrians but rarely crowded outside the peak summer weeks. The route along the south shore near the Wadden Sea national park boundary is particularly good for birdwatching from the saddle.
