Göttingen is on the main north–south InterCityExpress line between Hamburg and Munich. Hannover (35 minutes), Frankfurt (1h45) and Berlin (under three hours) are all easy day-return trips. The station is a 5-minute walk from the Altstadt.
The nearest airports are Hannover (about 90 minutes by train) and Frankfurt (1h45 by ICE). There is no scheduled service to the small local airfield.
By car, the A7 motorway passes a few kilometres west of the city. Parking inside the medieval ring road is metered and restrictive; use one of the Park-and-Ride lots on the edge of town.
