Dempterhaus

An elaborate 1607 Weser Renaissance mansion with intricate stone carvings

The Dempterhaus, built in 1607, is one of the more flamboyant examples of Weser Renaissance architecture in Hameln's old town. The facade is covered in decorative carvings — reliefs of figures, foliage, and geometric patterns — in the densely ornamented style that characterised this regional building tradition. The building takes its name from a former owner and now serves as commercial premises, as do most of the historic buildings in Hameln's town centre.

It stands close to the Rattenfängerhaus on Osterstrasse and can be seen on the same walk through the old town. The combination of the two buildings, separated by only a few dozen metres, gives a good sense of the variety possible within a single regional style.
