A small but excellent museum of ancient art, named for the Hanoverian diplomat Georg Kestner who left his collection of antiquities to the city in the 19th century. Egyptian mummies, Greek pottery, Roman coins and a thoughtful department of medieval applied arts.
The 1960s building wraps a curtain of patterned aluminium around an older sandstone box — an unusual piece of post-war architecture that is itself worth a look. Cheap and quick: an hour to do justice to it.
