Sprengel Museum

Major 20th-century art museum with the best Kurt Schwitters holdings anywhere

Address Kurt-Schwitters-Platz, 30169 Hannover
Website www.sprengel-museum.de

On the eastern shore of the Maschsee, the Sprengel houses one of Germany's most important collections of 20th- and 21st-century art. The strengths are German Expressionism, Picasso, French modernism and a deep holding of work by Hannover's own Kurt Schwitters — including a partial reconstruction of his Merzbau, the multi-room collage installation destroyed in the war. A 2015 extension nearly doubled the gallery space. Allow at least two hours.
