The German Salt Museum occupies an old saltworks on Sülfmeisterstraße — the actual industrial buildings where brine was boiled down to crystals for the last time in 1980. Exhibits walk you through the full history of salt production in Lüneburg, from medieval extraction methods to the civic wealth it generated. This is the best single place to understand why the city looks the way it does.
Open daily 10:00–17:00 (closed Mondays in winter). Entry around €7.
