Getting There

Lüneburg is well connected by train and straightforward to reach by car. There is no airport — Hamburg's airport is the nearest major hub, about 60 kilometres to the northwest.

By train: Direct regional trains from Hamburg Hauptbahnhof run every 30 minutes and take around 35–40 minutes. From Hamburg Airport, take the S-Bahn to the central station first. Hannover is about an hour away by ICE or regional express.

By car: The A250 autobahn connects Lüneburg directly to Hamburg; the drive takes around 45 minutes in normal traffic. Parking in the Altstadt is limited — use one of the multi-storey car parks on the edge of the old town and walk in.
