Brick Gothic basilica with 117-metre spire and city views

This imposing three-naved red-brick Gothic basilica dates from the fourteenth century and is one of the finest examples of Brick Gothic architecture in northern Germany. The 117-metre spire was added in the 1890s and its lookout platform offers the best panoramic views in the city, taking in the castle, the lakes, and the surrounding countryside on a clear day. The interior has a striking medieval triumphal cross and a beautiful bronze baptismal font from 1325. Climb the tower — it is not heavily visited and the view from the top is worth every step.
