Füchschen (The Little Fox) is one of the four brewpubs in the Altstadt that brew their own Altbier, and it occupies a particularly fine old building with high ceilings, exposed brick, and a large street-level terrace in summer. The beer is brewed in a copper kettle visible from the main bar, and the Füchschen Alt is perhaps the most balanced of the four house-brewed versions — slightly less bitter than Uerige, clean and malty.
The kitchen serves traditional Rhineland food and the portions are generous. Füchschen tends to be a bit more welcoming to first-time visitors than some of the older regulars-only establishments. The attached brewing museum is small but gives context to the Altbier tradition.
