Things to Do

Düsseldorf's sights cluster around two poles. On the south side of the city centre, the Altstadt and the Rhine promenade offer history, churches, the classic brewpub experience, and the Rheinturm at the water's edge. Northward, the cultural institutions concentrate: the K20 and K21 art museums, the Ehrenhof complex with its Museum Kunstpalast, and the Hofgarten park with the Goethe Museum.

South of the centre, the Medienhafen harbour district is the place for contemporary architecture — most famously the Gehry towers, but also buildings by Chipperfield, Vasconi, and others. For something completely different, the Japanese quarter around Immermannstraße near the main station is one of the most authentic Japanese neighbourhoods in Europe.
