The Ehrenhof is a grand cultural complex on the Rhine bank, built in 1926 for the Gesolei Exhibition — a vast display of public health, social welfare, and physical culture. The architect Wilhelm Kreis designed the complex as a formal ensemble of exhibition halls, lawns, and colonnades in a stripped classical style that sits somewhere between Weimar modernism and monumental civic architecture.
Today the complex houses the Museum Kunstpalast, one of Düsseldorf's main art museums, with collections ranging from medieval painting to a strong holding of Beuys, Richter, and the Düsseldorf School. The NRW Forum next door hosts photography, design, and digital culture exhibitions. The Rhine promenade begins just beyond the Ehrenhof, and the complex connects naturally to the Hofgarten park.
