Insel Hombroich is a unique art and nature museum about 25 kilometres southwest of Düsseldorf in the Erft river floodplain. The art — sculptures and paintings, including work by Yves Klein, Eduardo Chillida, and Jean Fautrier — is displayed in pavilions scattered through a landscape of meadows, ponds, and woodland paths. Nothing is labelled. No descriptions, no chronological order. You wander and encounter art in context with nature. There is a traditional farmhouse café where a simple breakfast is served free of charge.
