Paderborn Cathedral (Paderborner Dom) is the Catholic cathedral of the Archdiocese of Paderborn, a Romanesque-Gothic structure begun in the eleventh century and substantially expanded over the following 300 years. The crypt beneath the main nave is one of the largest in Germany and contains the tomb of Bishop Meinwerk, the cathedral's main medieval patron.
The cathedral treasury displays some of the most important Carolingian and medieval church artefacts in Germany, including the reliquary of St. Liborius, who has been venerated here since 836. The famous Three Hares Window — three rabbits sharing three ears in a circular arrangement — is in the Chapel of the Cross and gives visitors something genuinely puzzling to contemplate. The attached cloisters are a peaceful spot for a few minutes away from the city noise.
