Recklinghausen's eating scene is solidly Ruhrpott in character — unpretentious, filling, and best enjoyed in the traditional German restaurants and Turkish kebab joints clustered around the old town. Expect hearty German pub food, a strong Italian contingent (as throughout the Ruhr), and the Döner-and-schnitzel mix that defines working-class NRW dining. Nothing here is destination dining, but you will eat well and cheaply.
