Winterberg Bobrun

One of the main attractions of Winterberg outside ski season — and an excellent one in winter too. The Bobbahn (bobrun) is an official IBSF track that hosts international competitions, and in the warmer months it operates as a tourist attraction with a wheeled summer bob. Runs last around 90 seconds and cover about a kilometre of banked curves.

Booking in advance is advisable in summer, when queues can be long on weekends. The track is on the southern edge of town, a short walk from the centre. Minimum age and height requirements apply; check the website before going with young children.

A story
The Winterberg bobsled track hosted the 1989 Bobsled World Championship and remains one of the few artificial bobsled tracks in Germany. In winter, the track runs at up to 120 km/h; in summer, a wheeled version carries tourists down the same curves at more sociable speeds. The sensation of a high-banked curve at 80 km/h in a rubber-tired bob is unexpectedly good.
