The Electoral Castle stands directly by the Rhine, a reminder that Boppard belonged to the powerful Electorate of Trier. Its blocky riverfront form is less romantic than the ruined castles on the cliffs, but it is more useful to the town: today it houses the city museum, with local history, art, and the story of the Rhine trade.
