Several operators run boat trips along the Mosel from Cochem's riverfront promenade, ranging from short panoramic cruises to longer excursions upriver toward Beilstein or downstream toward Treis-Karden. The boats are open-decked in summer and glide past steep slate vineyard slopes, half-timbered villages, and occasional ruins of smaller fortifications that never made it into the tourist brochures.
The view of Reichsburg from the water is different from the town view — the castle appears higher and more isolated from the river. Trips typically run from May through October, with the afternoon departure giving the best light on the vineyards. Check with the tourist office on the promenade for current schedules; timings vary by season.
