Trier's bar scene is concentrated around a handful of squares in the old town. The Viehmarktplatz is the warm-weather hub — in summer the whole square fills with outdoor tables from the cafés and cocktail bars along its edges (Barocco and Simplicissimus among them). Around the cathedral, Walderdorff's is the go-to spot for a Latte Macchiato and a view of the Dom. For a proper German Kneipe — the low-lit, unhurried corner pub that every German town does well — the streets around the Hauptmarkt and Pferdemarkt have plenty of options. Trier is also wine country: this is the heart of the Moselle, and most bars will pour you a local Riesling by the glass.
