Muskau Park is one of Europe's great landscape gardens, laid out from 1815 by Prince Hermann von Puckler-Muskau and spread across both banks of the Neisse. UNESCO protects it as a German-Polish World Heritage Site because it changed how landscape design could work at the scale of a town and its surrounding countryside.
Do not rush it as a castle lawn. The pleasure is in the long views, the bridges, the shifts between meadow and woodland, and the odd feeling of crossing an international border as part of a garden walk.
