Eating at the Kornhaus is the most memorable meal you can have in Dessau — not because the food is extraordinary, but because the setting is. The 1930 Bauhaus pavilion curves along the Elbe bank with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the river; on a clear day you eat with a wide view of the water and the far shore. The terrace is one of the best spots in the city in summer.
The menu runs to German standards — schnitzel, fish, seasonal specials — done reliably well. It is not cheap by Dessau standards, but the combination of the architecture, the riverside location, and the food makes it worth the price. Reserve ahead for dinner and weekend lunches; the place is well known and fills up.
