The Bauhaus Building and Meisterhäuser are both within comfortable walking distance of the city centre — the Bauhaus Building is about fifteen minutes on foot from the main station, and the Meisterhäuser a further ten minutes north through a residential area. Dessau is flat and straightforward to navigate on foot.
A bicycle makes the day considerably easier. The city has rental options, and the 12-kilometre ride east to Wörlitz follows a largely flat cycle path through the floodplain — allow forty-five minutes each way and you have a pleasant half-day circuit. Inside Wörlitzer Park itself, cycling is restricted in places, so leave the bike at the entrance and walk the park.
For the wider Garden Kingdom — other parks like Luisium, Georgium, or the more remote sections of the landscape — a car or local bus is the practical option. The local bus network connects the major sites but runs infrequently; if you are planning a full Garden Kingdom day, a car saves considerable time. The Kornhaus, north of the centre along the Elbe, is a short bike ride or a ten-minute drive.
