Wernigerode is on the main regional rail line between Halberstadt and Vienenburg, with connections to Magdeburg, Brunswick (Braunschweig), and Hanover. Direct trains from Magdeburg take about 90 minutes. From Hanover, the journey takes around two hours with a change at Brunswick. From Berlin, allow approximately three hours.
By car, Wernigerode is on the B6 road and is well connected by the A36 Autobahn, which runs along the northern edge of the Harz. Parking is available in several car parks around the edge of the pedestrianised old town. The town is easily walkable once you have parked.
