Hasseröder Brewery

Brewery producing one of the Harz region's best-known beers

Hasseröder is one of eastern Germany's better-known breweries, located in the Hasserode quarter about 2 km west of the Wernigerode centre. The brewery produces a pale Pilsner that is the default beer in many Harz restaurants and pubs; it is also widely exported across Germany. The brewery offers guided tours by appointment that take visitors through the brewing process, the lagering cellars, and the history of the brand.

The Hasserode quarter itself is a pleasant neighbourhood that developed as a working-class suburb attached to the brewery and other industries. The Hasserode Castle ruins — a medieval hilltop fortification — are nearby and accessible on a short walk through the forest from the brewery. The combination of a brewery tour and a look at the castle ruins makes for a good afternoon if you have exhausted the old town.
