The Kleinstes Haus — the Smallest House — is a half-timbered house wedged into a gap between two larger buildings near the Marktplatz. It is only about 3 metres wide and two storeys tall, a curiosity that managed to squeeze into a gap in the medieval streetscape and has been there ever since. It is now one of Wernigerode's most photographed spots, largely because it is genuinely surprising in its dimensions.
The house is still occupied and is not open to visitors inside, but the exterior is on every old-town walking route. It is found in the Kochstrasse, a short walk from the Rathaus. Worth a look, but expect crowds in summer — the Smallest House pulls a disproportionate amount of attention for its size.
