Harbour Cafes

The Flensburg harbour promenade (Speicherline) has a row of cafes and restaurants with outdoor terraces overlooking the Firth. In summer, these fill up in the late afternoon as the water catches the low northern light and the sailing boats move in and out. The atmosphere is relaxed — this is not a tourist waterfront with inflated prices but a working harbour with cafes that serve a local clientele.

Coffee here is Nordic in style — good filter coffee as well as the standard espresso drinks. Several cafes do a decent breakfast, and the combination of a good coffee and a view across the Firth toward Denmark is one of the pleasures of being in Flensburg. The terraces are heated in early and late season, extending the outdoor season considerably.
