Flensburg is on the main rail line between Hamburg and Copenhagen. Regular IC and regional trains connect to Hamburg in about 2 hours and to Copenhagen (via the Öresund Bridge) in about 2.5 hours. The station is at the southern end of the city centre, a short walk or tram ride from the harbour and old town.
By road, Flensburg is on the E45 motorway (the main north-south route from Hamburg to Denmark) and the Danish border is about 2 km north of the city. The nearest airports are Sønderborg in Denmark (about 30 km) and Kiel in Germany (about 80 km); Hamburg Airport is the main international gateway at about 150 km.
