Eisenach is well connected by both rail and road. ICE high-speed trains stop here on the Frankfurt–Erfurt–Leipzig line, with the journey from Frankfurt taking about an hour and Erfurt about 25 minutes. Regional trains serve smaller Thuringian towns. The station is ten minutes' walk from the Marktplatz.
By car, the Autobahn 4 runs directly past the town — exit at Eisenach-West or Eisenach-Ost. The journey from Frankfurt takes about 90 minutes, from Erfurt about 40 minutes. The Wartburg is signposted from the main roads.
