Lutherhaus

One of Thuringia's finest half-timbered buildings, dating to the late 15th century. Martin Luther lived here from 1498 to 1501 while studying at the Latin school, boarding with the Cotta family. The building is now a museum devoted to Luther's life, the Reformation, and religious culture in late medieval Germany.

The collection includes early printed editions of the Luther Bible, historical documents, and objects related to Luther's years in Eisenach and his later life. The building itself is as interesting as the contents — the timber construction and the scale of the rooms give a vivid sense of life in a prosperous merchant household of the period. The museum is well labelled in English.
