Getting There

By train: Erfurt has excellent rail connections. It sits on the high-speed line between Frankfurt and Leipzig/Halle, putting it about 1h45m from Frankfurt and under an hour from Leipzig. The ICE also connects to Berlin (2h15m) and Munich (3h). The main station (Erfurt Hauptbahnhof) is at the eastern end of the Anger, a 15-minute walk from the old town.

By air: Erfurt–Weimar Airport has limited scheduled services and handles mostly charter flights. Most visitors fly into Frankfurt, Leipzig/Halle, or Berlin and travel onward by train.

By car: Erfurt sits at the junction of several autobahns (A4 east–west, A71 north–south) and is easy to reach by road. Parking in the old town is limited; use the park-and-ride facilities on the outskirts.
