New Synagogue

Erfurt's New Synagogue stands on the site of the 1884 synagogue destroyed under the Nazis in 1938. After the war, the city returned the land to the re-established Jewish congregation, and the present building went up in the East German period.

The architecture is deliberately restrained, but the site carries a heavy history. It is best visited as part of Erfurt's wider Jewish heritage trail, especially with the Old Synagogue and medieval mikveh.
