Ancient Cichyrus

Cichyrus, also called Ephyra, is the ancient Thesprotian town that stood near the modern village of Mesopotamo, on the hill above the Necromanteion. The Mycenaean and later Hellenistic remains include sections of cyclopean walls, the foundations of a small temple, and tombs in the surrounding fields.

Most visitors come for the Necromanteion next door and miss the older town behind it. The walk between the two sites takes ten minutes and is worth the detour, especially in the late afternoon when the light catches the stones.
