Halkidiki's food is the cooking of northern Greece at its most relaxed: serious seafood on every coastline, slow-cooked lamb and pork from the inland villages, and an enthusiasm for cold meze that suits long summer dinners. Look for mussels from the Thermaic Gulf, fresh octopus drying on lines outside fish tavernas, and the local honey from the pine forests of Sithonia. Most worthwhile tavernas are in the small fishing harbours rather than the resort strips.
