By car. Ioannina is about 450 km from Athens (5–6 hours on the modern Egnatia and Ionia motorways) and 250 km from Thessaloniki (about 3 hours along the Egnatia). The roads are good and dramatic — you cross the Pindos mountains by tunnel.
By bus. Frequent KTEL buses run from Athens (Kifissou terminal) and Thessaloniki to Ioannina. The Athens trip takes around 6 hours. There are also good connections from Igoumenitsa (the ferry port for Italy and Corfu) and from Patra.
By air. Ioannina National Airport (IATA: IOA), 4 km from the centre, has daily Aegean and Sky Express flights to Athens (45 minutes). A handful of seasonal European routes operate in summer.
From Italy and Corfu. The Adriatic ferries dock at Igoumenitsa on the coast, about 90 minutes west of Ioannina. A direct KTEL bus connects the two.
