Kyra Panagia Beach

Kyra Panagia is the most popular beach in the north of the accessible part of Karpathos — a long sandy bay sheltered from the open sea, with calm, shallow water that turns every shade of blue and green. It is reachable by a dirt road from Spoa village or by boat from Pigadia, and there is a seasonal taverna at the beach.

The surrounding hills drop steeply into the sea, and the combination of clear water, rugged landscape, and relative quiet makes this one of the best spots on the island. Go early or stay late — the middle of the day sees excursion boats from Pigadia.

A story
The name means "Our Lady" in Greek, and the small Byzantine chapel at the back of the beach has been in continuous use for over a thousand years. Fishermen still stop here to light a candle before setting out.
