The Municipal Museum of Evrytania in Karpenisi covers the history and folk traditions of one of the most isolated regions of mainland Greece. Collections include traditional embroideries, woven textiles, carved wooden implements, and folk costumes from the mountain villages of Evrytania — a reminder that this area developed a distinct material culture during the long centuries when its geography made outside contact difficult.
The museum also covers the region's role in the Greek War of Independence, when Evrytanian klephts and armatoloi (brigands-turned-fighters) contributed significantly to the uprising against Ottoman rule. Several local heroes are commemorated here. The museum is small and can be seen in an hour, but it provides useful context for the landscape and villages you will encounter in the surrounding area.
