Lela's is the most famous taverna in Kardamili, and fame here is well-founded. The kitchen does straightforward Greek food — grilled fish, slow-cooked lamb, good horiatiki, excellent local wine from the barrel — with more care than most waterfront tavernas bother to apply. The terrace looks out over the bay and catches the evening breeze.
The restaurant is associated with the extended Lela family, who have been part of Kardamili's village life for generations. Patrick Leigh Fermor ate here regularly; the connection is mentioned with appropriate modesty rather than turned into a marketing device. Go for dinner rather than lunch, and order the catch of the day if fresh fish is available.
