The ancient theatre is Maroneia's headline ruin. It was built in the Hellenistic period and later reworked by the Romans, and enough of the stone seating remains to understand how the theatre fitted the slope.
The site is not spectacular in the rebuilt-theatre sense. Its strength is quieter: the open hillside, the rough archaeological setting, and the sense that the ancient city is still only partly visible.
