Mesimvria Archaeological Site

Coastal colony site with walls, houses, a Demeter sanctuary, and Apollo temple remains.

Mesimvria was a colony of Samothrace, founded near the coast in the late 7th century BC. The excavated remains include defensive walls, houses, streets, public buildings, a sanctuary of Demeter, and the remains of a temple of Apollo.

It sits a little away from Maroneia itself, but it belongs to the same ancient coastal world. For archaeology-minded travellers it is one of the strongest stops in the area.
